As people were forced to stay home amid the fear of the pandemic, I thought of how valuable our freedom really is and I wanted to paint something to celebrate freedom. The liberating feeling of being outdoors, surrounded by fresh air near the openness of a lake can be rejuvenating. Whether fishing, boating, or simply embracing the joy of being alive, the outdoors offers a sense of freedom that can feel opposite to being locked inside. I thought of people having fun and putting fears to rest as they found liberty in the beauty of a lakeside town.
